Breakthrough Women

Danica Patrick won an Indy race this weekend after about 3 years of professional competition, silencing her naysayers.

Patrick’s triumph made Sunday a memorable day not only for drivers and open-wheel-racing fans, but for women.  “Today marks the celebration for all of us who have chipped away at the barriers that many women have faced in fields that are dominated by men,”

  1. It’s strange how we seem to have to celebrate women’s entry into every particular profession as a step toward getting there. (It’s early and the thoughts aren’t flowing freely.) I don’t think that’s what’s really happening, though. I think it’s that we’re railing against the fact that somebody out there still thinks we can’t. For those jerks, though, we could offer every proof from now until eternity and it probably wouldn’t change much, would it?

  2. Absolutely, Danica just says she always knew she could do it and so did her family and coworkers. I suppose in her case in particular she chose to use her beauty to get advertising deals and a lot of people thought she was just a pretty face and not serious about it.
